Starting with the training of <strong>physicians<\/strong>, who\u2014faced with an ever-increasing influx of innovation\u2014 <strong>must not lose their autonomy<\/strong>:<em>\u201cThe risk is a loss of skill<\/em>,\u201d Nobile explains. <em>\u201cWe must not forget the technical aspects; in the operating room, <strong>one must be able to make clinical decisions even without assistance<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d These implications also extend to legal and ethical aspects, given the potential for bias in the data being managed\u2014posing a threat not only to patient privacy but also to entire <strong>databases built on <\/strong><strong>inaccurate <\/strong> <strong>foundations <\/strong>,<strong>which <\/strong> can only lead to<strong> flawed\u2014and therefore presumably incorrect\u2014decisions<\/strong>. It can also be useful in prognostics for predicting the outcome of a procedure, but <strong>the presence of a human operator with a critical mind remains essential<\/strong>. <\/em>\". The threat, in fact, remains that of internal biases, which\u2014based on inappropriate data\u2014can lead to wrong decisions. \"<em>One example is <strong>women<\/strong>, for whom <strong>there are fewer dedicated studies<\/strong>, so data from men is used instead, which may not be very representative<\/em>,\" adds the expert.\n\nEven technology itself is not immune to these risks: \u201c<strong><em>Tools<\/em><\/strong><em> for robotics, diagnostics, and surgical procedures <strong>designed for Asian individuals<\/strong>\u2014who have a lower body mass than we do\u2014may <strong>prove less precise than they should be<\/strong><\/em> <strong><em>when used in Europe<\/em><\/strong>,\u201d the professor points out.
